HP Still Considering PC Spin-Off, Says WSJ

Amidst the drama of whether or not Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) will replace its chief executive, Leo Apotheker, The Wall Street Journal’s Ben Worthen this afternoon reports that the company is not going to immediately back away from Apotheker’s proposal last month that HP considering dumping its personal computer business.

“H-P’s board is standing by its decision to explore a separation of the company’s personal-computer business,” an anonymous source tells Worthen.

HP shares are down $1.42, or 6%, at $22.56. It is expected an announcement on CEO transition could come this afternoon, after market close.
